My Happiness Project: February, the Month for Self-Love

I can’t believe it's already February. It feels like just yesterday was January 1st, but it also feels worlds away. Last year really changed how time passes. Today, I spent some time reflecting on my habits from January. I didn’t follow every one perfectly, but I did do a kiss-ass job. I’m super proud of how much I have accomplished already and it’s only 31 days into 2021! It's so important to track progress for goals like this because days and weeks become so blurred. You will never be able to truly see progress and accomplishments unless you write them down.

Plus–an added bonus–I was feeling so pumped that I got right into my February habits. I can't wait to share and start making moves. I knew from the beginning that this month would have a theme of “self-love”, a little spin on the typical “love” theme that February is known for. I wanted these first few months to really ground myself in energy and practices that will fill my cup first. Then, I can start focusing on everyone and everything else out there. I know myself too well. I can run on fumes for a while but burnout will occur and it takes me a lot of time to recover.

I also wanted to carry over some of my January habits. I feel like some habits need more time to truly become ingrained, like drinking more water (way harder than I thought) and moving 20 minutes a day (because not enough time is always an excuse!)

I also want to keep my new habits to 5 or less. I’m a firm believer that less is more, especially when it comes to making change. I find success comes easier when I can really focus on these habits/changes every day. Making too many changes will start to feel overwhelming once the initial beginner high wears off. I have to set an intention every day to focus on them, so the list has to be short. Or overwhelm will creep in and I will give up.

February’s habits were narrowed down to:

  1. Stretch/Foam Roll for at least 5 minutes

  2. Dry Brush

  3. Self Massage (face/gua sha or body/abhyanga)

  4. Grounding (walk/sun/water)

  5. Selfie or #ootd

I’m super excited to see how the month goes, feeling all the “new month” vibes. I know they will dwindle, and that’s why I love sharing with you. It helps keep me accountable. I will update you by the end of the month and let you know how it went. Please feel free to share with me here or on Instagram (@polishingup) if you have new habits and goals you’re working on. We can cheer each other on!

Sending you lots of love,

jodi xx
