What’s a limiting belief, why it’s killing your dreams, and what I’m doing about it
Almost my whole life (who really remembers infancy?) I have let my thoughts run the show without question. Whatever I thought, is what I believed.
I have been seeking with intention for the past 8 years and came to realize that nothing can make a bigger impact on my life or bring me more truthful peace than my own thoughts.
I struggle with my purpose to be in this world. I feel pulled in two very different directions on a daily basis.
Two Worlds
I am a stylist/fashion editor who feels truly lit up by beautiful things including lots of material objects. In that same breath, I’m a spiritually-curious seeker that knows materialistic items won’t make me truly happy.
But this year, more than any other year in my life, I feel pulled to lay out all the limiting beliefs; the ones I have about myself. I am sure you can relate to a few as well.
What is a Limiting Belief?
A thought or belief that is holding you back from becoming the person you KNOW you are meant to be.
Limiting beliefs enter our minds through parents, siblings, teachers, friends, family, tv, cultural ideas, society ... you get the idea.
While there a lot of limiting beliefs, I have narrowed it down to 12 I have the most trouble with. These terrible 12 have plagued me most of my life. It’s time to shine a big bright light on them so we can finally let them go.
Only when you look directly at your biggest fear can you see it for what it is. Then, watch your fear loosen its grip on you.
New Direction
Every month, I will share my story about one belief as well as give you the tools and exercises I have found to be most helpful in facing and letting go of this belief.
I hope, by sharing my stories with you, you will see a bit of yourself in me. Maybe you will be motivated to make a small change, think about your life a new way, or face a fear.
The one thing I know for sure is the only way we can truly change the world is to start with ourselves. It’s easy to point the finger (I know I do it) but what if we took a step back and looked at where we could do better? It starts with our thoughts. Once we can get a handle on our thoughts, our beliefs will change and then actions are not far behind.
I hope you enjoy this new direction myself and Polishing Up will be taking this year. I wish you nothing but to find a way to true happiness however you can.
There is nothing more important in 2018 than to let go of the beliefs that are holding you back from sharing your gifts and talents with the world. Lord knows we need it more than ever.
Now is the time! Start doing something that scares you, even if it’s just a little. A small step forward is still a step forward.
Stay tuned next Tuesday when I will sharing the first limiting belief on the blog. I don’t plan on sending you a ton of emails this year so follow me on Instagram for updates and reminders if this feels right and your soul is screaming “YESSSS”.
All the love,
