My New Year’s Process
what I’m doing differently and the tools that have helped me change my life
I’m sure thousands and thousands of posts like this go up in January. It feels a little cliche, but I feel so strongly about my New Year’s ritual that I had to share. I know resolutions can feel full of pressure, but hear me out. Focusing on and harnessing the collective energy is the power move here. It’s a magical time to set intentions and make changes you’ve been thinking about with a little extra push from the universal energy of the new year.
The thing to remember here is that this energy will help you get started, but it’s going to be on you to see your plans through. This energy fades, as we all know, and resolutions fall away due to a lack of planning and motivation. Understanding this is a very important part of the process. Going into the new year with your eyes open can be very helpful.
Over the years I’ve tried so many methods for setting and keeping goals but none have served me as well as these tools below. My intention is to share with you hopefully you can benefit. I don't believe in any one-size-fits-all methods. It’s about finding the process that’s gonna work for you and you won’t know until you try
Late Start
Not sure if it's my rebellious personality or the fact I just need a longer break, but I never start any New Year goals on the 1st or the 2nd or even in January. I feel like the collective energy of the new year is around almost the whole month. I usually get serious and pick a day to start focusing on my goals around the second week of the year. It feels like everything has settled and I can finally start focusing on my dreams and intentions for 2023. Knowing a lot of people are already full speed ahead into the new year and their goals helps strengthen my motivation and my why.
TBM Work
This is the part nobody wants to hear. The most important key is doing the work. Over the years I’ve come to believe that you can have the best intentions and plan for everything, but you can’t overpower your subconscious. The deep beliefs you have within you that you (most of the time) don’t even realize exist. They will sabotage every good intention you have if you don't face them head-on. The work I’ve done with To Be Magnetic has helped me more than anything I've done. The practice of focusing on my triggers, figuring out my patterns, and then doing the work of reprogramming them so my desires can become realities. If you find that you constantly get stuck and fall back into bad habits or patterns you've been trying to change, I strongly suggest this work. It’s been the most effective and affordable program I’ve come across.
One Thing a Month
At the beginning of every year, we get so excited, write a huge list of things we want to change, and then January comes along and we are overwhelmed. It's impossible (at least for me) to try to create a ton of new habits all at the same time. A few years back after reading The Happiness Project (highly recommend) I took my list of habits, behaviors, etc. I wanted to create and scheduled them out into the year. I made each month a theme (work, self, family, etc.) and choose 2-3 things I wanted to focus on that month. It was way less overwhelming and I found that I could actually create the changes because there was space and time. This year I’m going to take it even slower. I’m going to pick only one thing I want to focus on each month. Some are as small as drinking more water, but I find that focus is the key. When you can let everything else fall away and go deep into one thing that's where real change can happen. Our society LOVES the huge big radical changes. But if that's failed you in the past, I suggest this way. Small steps with deep intention and lasting changes.
One last thing, I want to thank you so much for reading my blog and being a friend along this journey. It means a lot to me. I hope 2023 is full of whatever it is that makes you happy, and if you don’t know, I hope you take the time this year to find out.
So much love,
jodi xx
